Malta is the largest island in the archipelago, measuring 27kms by 14.5kms. Malta has neither rivers nor mountains, but is characterised by a series of low, flat-topped hills with terraced fields on their slopes. The waters in Malta and Gozo are some of the most limpid and clear in the world. Visibility is excellent down to around 30 metres. So the Maltese Islands are a dream destination for underwater photography. Although the intensive weekend programs are quite feasible, many feel that basic scuba diving courses spread out over a few weeks will help beginners learn the skills better.
