Make sure that the scuba diving course you are interested in taking in Malta as well as its instructor are certified with one of the major scuba diving training agencies. From May - October the water temperature around Malta and Gozo is around 20 C and a 5mm wetsuit (with gloves and boots) is recommended. Pleasure Dives for Qualified Divers - Water temperatures are dropping down to 15 C from November - April and a 7mm semi-dry suit with long johns and jacket (giving 14mm on the core body) is recommended (don't forget hood, boots and gloves). If you are more comfortable in a drysuit, this is an excellent option.
The Open Water Class - the first step and first contact of most people to SCUBA diving. Usually after a few class sessions and a few pool sessions, you are ready for your open water skill test with your instructors from Aquatica Dives. In the Open Water Class, you will learn the basics of SCUBA diving from setting up your dive equipment to how to react and solve basic emergencies under water. You will also learn basic SCUBA diving terms such as decompression, narc and safety stop. At the end of the class, you will be rewarded and certified to dive in open water up to 60ft.
